City of St. Charles, Missouri Streetscape Project

Located on the banks of the Missouri River just minutes northwest of St. Louis, Saint Charles has long been central to America’s exploration and development of the West. In fact, the town is the third oldest settlement west of the Mississippi River, and was known as “the last civilized stop” for the Lewis and Clark Expedition in 1804. It was founded in the 1700s by a well-known French-Canadian fur trader, and performed duties as the temporary capital of Missouri for five years in the 1820s.

Since then, the town has worked hard to hold onto its historic roots. Visitors can get a taste these through museums like the First Missouri State Capitol State Historic Site, the Frenchtown Heritage Museum and Research Center, and the Lewis & Clark Boat House and Nature Center, plus annual festivals celebrating Oktoberfest (German history), September’s Missouri River Irish Festival (Irish), and the Missouri Tartan Day festivities in April (Scottish).

The town’s 11,000 seat arena hosts concerts and Missouri Valley Conference sporting events, and its convention center draws expos and trade shows. Add in a month-long Christmas festival, plus its historic downtown shopping district that draws visitors from all over the St. Louis metropolitan area, and you get regular infusions of thousands of people.

To handle all of this safely and smoothly, effective signage and streetscapes are critical.

But modernizing a historic town like St. Charles requires a light touch. At Brandon Industries, our goal was to enhance rather than replace the historical feel, and our steetscape products did this perfectly.

What We Installed:

Ornamental Street Signs — Including everything from directional signage to stop signs. Our street signs show pride and professionalism, while clearly communicating their important messages to drivers and visitors. They add modernity without sacrificing charm and history.

Four-Inch Fluted Poles — Strong and elegant. The fluted poles reflect the rustic, diverse, and vibrant character that has been the backbone of the town for more than 200 years.

Slip Over Bases & Acorn Finials — Surprising touches and subtle, delightful details in a town full of them.

Various Sign Trims — Create a sense of coherence and commonality throughout the town.
